Media Notes is a series of love letters to African media. For a while now, I have thought about ways to document some of the most interesting conversations and reflections I have had with media professionals and nothing felt quite right.
This format is experimental and will evolve over time but the mission at the centre is to write a reflective and honest series where I speak with editors, founders, producers, and publishers working at the edge of possibility, those building against the grain to tell stories that matter. I want to capture the struggle and thrill of making media on the African continent, taking a cursory look at what we lose, what we fight for, and what we dream is still possible.
The writing style is personal, layered, and somewhat conversational because I’m not just here to report, I want you to feel what I feel when I have these conversations.
Each edition is a conversation shaped by care and curiosity, and a deep desire to document the invisible work of pushing boundaries. Media Notes exists in the space between strategy and soul, where newsroom decisions meet personal convictions, and where business models meet my own childhood obsessions with media formats.
I’ve spent the last decade in and around African newsrooms, asking the same questions about meaning, sustainability, and care. I believe in journalism not just as information but as identity, legacy, and power. Media Notes is where I get to hold a mirror to that belief and invite others to do the same.
